It’s Gonna Snow!

Finally!

As a made my way to the local grocery store this evening, I noticed the tell-tale color in the sky. Regardless of what the weather forecast might be, I can tell by the color that it’s going to snow. I think it’s gonna snow big time.

With the G6 as my witness, I offer this drive by sample...

I’m looking forward to it.

Gary,

They say that it is going to snow here in Portland too, I will believe it when I see it. However, there are a few flakes falling from the sky as I type this message but I reside at 800ft above sea level.

I get excited when I see snow, perhaps it is because of my youth when snow meant no school. Maybe it is because I have such fond memories of bundling up just to have the wet snow pierce through my layers in 15 minutes but not care because of the intense snowball fight that rages around me.

Whatever it is, I look forward and get excited about snow. I hope that it does stick here in Portland enough that I can get my 3 year old son Gabe out on the snowboard in the front yard. He really wants to try it out and this would be a safe place for him to do so!

Hey, did that camera work out in the snow?

Great story, David! Did Gabe get to ride the yard?

Heather, even though the blue sky was wonderful, I didn't get a chance to get out yesterday...

Gary,

Yes he did, but not before I did! Today we realized that Gabe has not really ever had a chance to play in the snow for an extended period of time. Before anything could happen we had to go and try and buy him some snow clothes to keep him warm and dry. One stop shopping at Fred Meyer had all of the required gear. But unfortunately by the time we got back home Gabe was cranky and needed a nap.

Dawn also was planning on laying down with Ethan, and visions of snowboards bustling down my hill began to dance through my head. So I did what any respectable young man would do, I headed to the outdoors and strapped on the board. I started out going slow as I have a hip that has been hurting me for a couple months and have to go through some PT, but as things loosened up, so did I.

I quickly ran up the hill to my house and grabbed a piece of plywood sheeting to make myself a friendly little ramp. As the afternoon wore on the snow started to harded up from my repeated runs down the hill and I was then able to get some good speed and nice air, nothing more refreshing than landing a nice jump while throwing in a couple of grabs. With a bad hip and asphalt just a few inches below the snow I didn't try any massive aerial manauvers but still had a great time.

About the time my hip began to wear out I noticed that Gabe was up from his slumber and I swiftly went indoors and prepared him for the trek outdoors. Gabe loved it! We walked down to the "nasty water" which is an enchanted retention pond full of ducks and nutria. Now this is no easy hike and the way back up was teadious and slow but full of Gabes great wonder. "Dad what's that? Can you throw a snowball into the water? I need a quick little rest." On the way back up the hill Gabe decided that he would like to try the snowboard. So we trucked it up as fast as we could and I taught my son the finer art of riding a snowboard like a sled.

Now this may not seem like the most exciting way to ride a snowboard but as any seasoned and injured boarder will tell you this is a crucial riding style to learn. I am happy to say that Gabe was able to stay in the board and maintain his balance well enough to ride the black diamond run known as our front yard!

Man I love the snow, and now it appears Gabe does as well!

That's excellent David!

It reminds me of when my kids were that age. What a wonderful time.

Careful though... He'll be passing you on the slopes before you realize it!

Gary,

Passing up all of my fishing trips was rough when I was first getting used to being a dad. I still wanted to get out all the time but was obviously grounded. Now it is sometimes hard for me to be gone because I love being a dad. I love to share those moments where Gabe and someday Ethan learns something new and their face brightens and a smile cracks their round cheeks! Don't get me wrong, I still love to fly fish, its just that being a dad is even better!

I look forward to the days that he can race me down the slopes!

So, enough about me, did it snow in Bend?
