I Dislike Garage Sales, I think…

My parents are garage sale maniacs. I understand that you can get some great deals, but I just can’t plan my day around this type of journey. They were over a few weeks ago and, since my son (he loves this stuff) was with us, I ended up getting involved in visiting a local driveway. We ended up at a sale that I would call “professional”. That’s ok. There’s a lot of stuff there. I thought I would get out of the car and go ahead and check it out.

There was the typical junk mixed with a lot of somewhat odd handmade jewelery. Even though I was resistant to the whole idea, I ended up finding a rather worn example of old fly fishing paraphernalia that I have actually wished that I had, mostly for use as a prop in some of the images that I make, but also just to have something “cool”. My find might not register to many of you, but it’s kind of like finding that needle in whatever haystack you are looking in.

I post this thread in order to try and get each and every one of us to try and break out of the norm. Take chances. Go where you haven't been.

I didn't want to go to a garage sale, but I did. What if you took a moment to do something that you thought you might not like?

What might you find?

Please feel free to share your adventures.

Gary,

Because of this economy and the way things are looking Dawn and I have actually set a budget and we are sticking to it. What does this mean? The days of spending large sums of money on clothes are long gone.

What I had to get over is buying clothes from second hand shops. I had this major stigma about buying clothes that others had already worn. I am not sure why, but I did. Because of money being tight I have had to reform my way of thinking and have started shopping in places that I never though I would. But you know what, I have found major and I am talking major deals on my clothes.

It amazes me what people are willing to get rid of, we live in such a wasteful soceity! Anyways, I have gotten clothes and shoes that appear to be brand new for prices that are often times 75-80% less than what I would pay at a typical store. And this is for identical brands. Aside from fly fishing I love to skate and snowboard, so one of my favorite brands is Volcom. It is amazing what I am paying at these second hand stores for this brand, and I mean amazing.

I like you had to get over my view of what was the norm and break free of it. Now that I have I love it, it is like an adventure when I am shopping. Anyways, just thought that I would give you some feedback from my life.

David,

Thanks for another great contribution.

I think that there are a lot of people feeling the same way lately...
