A Stellar Ending, Part Two.

Given the show that the Moon and Venus have been playing out in our skies the past few nights, I threw my point and shoot camera and a tripod in the car just in case an opportunity arose to make another image. As I left work I noticed that there was a pretty good cloud bank moving in. My hopes for seeing the view were not real optimistic. After a quick dinner, my son and I made a quick trip to an optimal viewing area. Even with the thin cloud cover (hence the apparent glow of the Moon), my son and I managed to witness the setting Moon and Venus display. It was a sight to see!

A Stellar Ending

Those of us in my neck of the woods awoke this morning to an icy, snow covered landscape. As the day progressed, we went from snow, to rain, to bright sunshine, and even snowy bright sunshine.

As the light of the day slowly faded to darkness, the skies cleared and we were treated to another stellar display of the cosmos. Venus was shining brightly above the waxing crescent moon. What a way to end the day!

State of the Union...

I hope you all took the time to partake in viewing tonight’s speech.

I thought it was both very inspiring and encouraging.

Funds need to be invested in locally made (and alternative) fuels, health care, and education. Wow, what a concept. Haven’t we been saying this for years? Oh, never mind, GWB was busy helping his friends get rich and didn’t hear us.

President Obama seems to think like I do, at least for the most part. I especially enjoyed this quote (among other that are family related)…

“I will not spend a single penny for the purpose of rewarding a single Wall Street executive, but I will do whatever it takes to help the small business that can’t pay it’s workers, or the family that has saved and still can’t get a mortgage…”

He seems to have distrust for the banking industry, as do I.

Alternative fuels, health care, education. Three of the basic, but most important issues of our time.

Generally, I really liked his outlook.

I Like When This Happens!

I finally got out with my buddy Jon today, several weeks after his mishap:

It was great to have Jeff along as well. This is some fine company for a fishing trip on a chilly and dreary February Sunday afternoon.

We threw a lot of streamers towards the bank, hooked a few fish, saw a few more, and generally had a great day. The weather was predictably unpredictable, as predicted.

We ended the day having dinner with the girls at the local. What a grand day!

Pondering...

My current “day job” is in the car biz. More specifically, my time is shared between being a parts guy and the I.T. guy. Business has been very slow lately at our GM dealership. The bailout gig doesn't provide much hope for the future...

Last week, I got a call out of the blue. A job offer. An offer to do something that I could only dream about doing. But, it’s an offer that might take some part time work to get it going, and then a decreased salary if it becomes full time. A lot of hard work. Oddly enough, I like that idea…

This job offer would call on several of my talents. Local knowledge, photography, inventory management, people skills, and fly fishing for big trout.

How cool would it be to be able to acquire a raccoon eyed tan while hearing the stories of all the people that you might meet?

I'm pondering as to whether it would be better for me to stay at my current job working for the man (that has a bit of a chance to go under, although I don’t think that would happen), or invest my spare time into this new venture and then hopefully go all in. All in, just for my enjoyment.

I’m thinking it’s a go.

Opinions?

Top 5 things Running Around in my Head Tonight...

Vision.

Think about it. No, really… How many times do you leave your day job with your head slightly hanging down? I know you’re tired after a long day, but what would it take for you to look up at the heavens? Or really see what’s at your feet? Vision has many aspects. I am always looking for an angle that might make a good image, but you might be looking for something different. I just hope you can always keep your eyes open and see something different and interesting every day.

Love.

Love is a special term. It can apply to many things. Spouse, kids, grandkids… Humans… It can be applied to so many other things. The love of using your hands to make something; your eyes to see something; your mind to feel something; the dirt in your hands whilst you tend to your garden to physically feel something. Love is a personal feeling, especially true love. I applaud any person that has found true love, whatever that may be.

Inspiration.

Inspiration is something that we look for. It helps us through our day, our trip, or our current project. Inspiration. What a great word. What a great feeling. When we are inspired, we do great things. I always look for inspiration. It can come from the light in the sky, the Robins on my porch, a grand view from the top of a mountain, or even an afternoon meeting in a boardroom.

Hand Crafted.

How special is that term. Someone literally could have spent hours, days, weeks, or even years making something that they love. They dripped sweat making whatever it is. They have poured their hearts into it. At times they have learned the craftsmanship from their elders. Other times they have learned it from friends or even a casual acquaintance. At times they have forsaken their income. They have decided to do what they love to do, and are lucky enough to have others that will pay them barely enough for a loaf of bread in order to have one of their creations. Hopefully they will get enough recognition so that they can make a living doing what they love.

Words.

Words. They are so strong. Words are hard for me as I tend to be a visual person. I listen to words, I ignore words. But… words are strong. Read them and try to understand what is being said. It’s hard sometimes. Words are knowledge. Words are wisdom. Words can also be falsities, so be careful. Words are something that I need to absorb a little more often.
